Awe, with a big sigh, we say goodbye to softball season.
What kind of sigh?
Depends on who you ask.
Ellie would sigh because she got extra time with one of her BFF's and she is going to miss it. She will also miss her coach and being part of a team. She would sigh because she would miss winning.(They ended up 8-2). She would sigh because she still wanted time to get better at batting.
Emma would sigh from relief that she would never have to go to bat again. Those balls came way too fast for her. She would heave a glad sigh not to have to camp out in right field anymore where nothing ever came her way. She would sigh mournfully over the fact that there would be no more softball chants, or high fives, or ice cream after games. She would give a hopeful sign that maybe next year she won't be the smallest and youngest on the team.
The kiddos would sadly sigh over the fact that their would be no more endless grass fields to run in, no more puddles to splash in, no more yummy picnics packed by mommy, no more fences to climb, and no more daddy's dirty back to climb on while he tries to watch the game.
Mommy would sigh a few different ways too. One would be a satisfied and proud of herself sigh, "I made it through another season. All those practices and games, near and far, hauling three extra little bodies around and kept them occupied." One would be a proud sigh about what her girls had done. "They played well, they worked at getting better, they didn't give up or try to get out of it, EVER. They were helpers and good sports on their team." And the last kind of sigh would be the regretful one, the one all mother's do, the "I wish sigh". "I wish I could have spent more time with them, helping them with their catching or batting or fielding. I wish I could have been able to really sit down and enjoy their games, watch every little amazing move they make. Notice how hard they tried to get that ball. Or seen their confusion when they didn't exactly know what to do. I wish I didn't have to be so far away..... minding the littles way out past outfield."
It's a good thing I have a zoom lens.
