Today, after church, while we patiently waited for Adam to finish a few interviews I grabbed his phone to record "our" spring recital.
It all began early in March. Poor Ellie, it was just a few short months before her 8th birthday and I had just read the book, The Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mom, and I had just picked my first battle. I wanted her to play a song for her baptism. We have been working on the piano for about a year and a half now, but we have not been doing a stealler job at it. We only had lessons every other week and practicing was constantly being put on the "do that later list". After reading her book, I was instantly ready to push my little piano player a bit more. While I am not about to get as crazy as the auther Amy Chou, by banning sleepovers and TV, I realize that I need and can push my kids to do more. And you know what? Ellie really did it! We started with a song that was near impossible for her, but after a few frustrating practice sessions she started to see a little success and that sparked some great motivation in her. She jumped on the piano whenever she could. She wanted to get that song just as much as I wanted her to. Now its all I hear all day long, her little fingers trying out the melody on every key, "I just wanted to see what it would sound like without the sharps." It is not perfect by any means. Ellie and rhythem need to have a little discussion, but I am so proud of her, and now there is no turning back. On to Carnegie Hall-or at least more simplified church and primary hymns.
And here is Emma. She is a hoot as always, but especially on the piano. She usually sings every note she is playing, "ABC CBA ABCD!"
