Ellie and I always look forward to our birthday.
We love that we get to share.
This year our birthday fell on the busiest day of the year, we felt like, smack dab in the middle of the week on a cub scout and school math night.
We made the best of it with some cutie, cute cupcakes for Ellie to bring to her class and cake and more cupcakes with the family after everyone was reunited that evening after our activities.
Those little hedgehogs and hedgehoggets where a lot of fun to make. It was my first time using fondant(I had seen my mother and sister-in-law work with a bunch) and I decided to make it. The recipe called for simple, already in my cupboard ingredients and since I'd heard that the store bought stuff doesn't taste too yummy, marshmallow fondant seemed the way to go. There were only a few times in the early sticky stages where I was looking around at the mess thinking buying might have saved some energy, but ultimately it turned out just fine. After the sticky stage, it gets just like play dough. Ellie helped put the finishing touches on her hogs and we packed them up. I even splurged on a cake box and baker's twine for my little girl. She deserves it, especially after our last year's ombre flop.
I am so amazed at my little 10 year old. She is practically perfect in every way. She is kind to everyone. She is loving to her family. She has tender feelings. She tries to be good. She is a gatherer of friends and a leader to her classmates. She is dedicated and works at improving. She loves to be involved with school. There is not a club flyer or fun raiser that she passes by. She is a big reader still. Fantasy is her super favorite, but I have been trying to sneak in a few of my girlie favorites into her reading pile. The other day I offered to do her dishes if she read the first chapter of Anne of Green Gables. I had to offer to fold her laundry a few days later for the second chapter, but that was all it took and guess who is hooked now?
Black Beauty next?
Little Women?
Now, what did I accomplish in my 30th year?
Found my life changing new mode of transport.
I stuck to a workout routine and calorie counter for longer than I ever had.
Finally got my husband through school. :)
Celebrated our first "gotcha" day with Cayden, still working towards Seth's.
Made it through another crazy summer.
Sent a kid off to middle school.
Started a new Conference Weekend camp out tradition.
Performed in a musical skit.
Braved my fear as I sent my little ones off to school again after that terrible shooting nearby.
Took my husband to St Thomas. :)
Started practicing the piano again after a 15 year hiatus.
Cleared my own driveway, walkways, and deck after our blizzard dump three feet of snow.
Biked all of April.
31 here I come!

Somehow I missed your birthday on FB. Happy belated birthday! You forgot one thing on your list, yet another year of being one of the best mom's EVER!!!! I'm so glad you guys are doing well. Your having great adventures so far from family. It's great that your making the best of it. It is the best time of year to do that in my opinion. Laters.
