What a Project

Four days later, and I am still recouping from our Memorial Day weekend.
In the midst of sickness and T-ball games and a church picnic, we took on this big bad project.
We ripped out the carpet in our living room and master bedroom and replaced it with hard wood.  It is something we have wanted to do for a long time, but getting the funds together and the time to do it was always a challenge.  We got a nudge to get it done after all the whole family suffered through a stomach bug, and there was a whole new batch of "stains" that I was having a hard time getting to come out.
My husband said, "Forget it Kayla, I'm just going to rip it out."
And that's what we did Saturday morning.
After removing the hundreds of staples and carpet tacks and with a good sweep and vacuum, we were ready to bring in the floor.

Sunday we rested from our labors,
but Monday we were right back to work.

Meanwhile, poor Gracie Lu was still sick.
She had the stomach bug early in the week, Monday, Tuesday, and Wed, and wasn't quite back to herself when she must have caught another virus and has had a fever ever since.
This morning though, no fever thank goodness, but she is still awefully whinny.

Even though we/mostly Adam worked like made on Monday, we didn't get it finished.  He was able to take off Tuesday to finish it up.  We love how the floor turned out, and I am so excited about how much easier it will be to clean.  We want to continue the flooring into the dinning room and kitchen, but there are some changes I want to make in the kitchen before new flooring and so Phase 2 will be later, maybe next year.  We also kept our old wood trim.  We were hopeing it would look good next to our new wood floors, but they are just too old and beat up to look good anymore.  Phase 3 will be new heafty white baseboards and trim.

My kids were happy to have the project over, they had had a rough weekend too, with me constantly telling them to look for ways to help.  Ellie pretty much took care of the baby all afternoon on Monday.  Cayden was constantly underfoot trying to see what tool would gouge my floor the best.  Deigo and Dora could only keep him occupied for so long.  Emma spent a good amount of time with him out in the backyard.  But all was worth it.  We have a great pillow surfing runway now and a wide open space for sock skating, and what could be better?

Looks beautiful. I am so jealous. I just paid a lot of money to have my 13 year old carpets cleaned and I despise carpeting for the same reasons. Some day...
