Emma is my first grader this year. This is the year that I saw reading open up new worlds for Ellie and I was eagerly awaiting those magic letters to do the same for Emma. But halfway through the year, that magic still hadn't happened. We were still working and working on our sight words without any great progress. Her weekly spelling tests were troublesome as we studied and studied, but still didn't master them. Her teacher was kind as she calmed my concerns saying "She'll get it before you know it."
So we waited and worked and Christmas came. During Christmastime we moved the girls out of thier old room and into the spare bedroom. During the move, we unearth the mountains of books they had hidden deep in thier closet and I literally "threw" them up on these shelves until I could get to them later. Well, three months later I still haven't got to them yet, but someone else has! Every night Emma picks a few to take to her bed and read. At first she was just skimming through the pictures, but soon she realized that she knew some of the words and began reading them for real. A few days ago she asked Ellie to help her pick out a chapter book because she had read all the picture books on the shelf.
Awe, my Emma! I shouldn't have worried. You are your own person and when you decide to work on something it comes so easy!
Here is my Ellie as a first grade reading wonder in her princess dress and tiara and as my third grade reading wonder working on Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. How things have changed.
And lastly, here is an adorable video of Gracie "reading" her favorite bedtime story. No she does not read, but we still pretend.

AWE!!! Reading was SO hard for me. I can't even imagine teaching Edward to read... we are still working on the potty. One pee at a time. :)
