I was worried about today's birthday.
We had been looking forward to it for awhile.
It was the day Gracie was to start preschool.
That is what the whole day was going to be about, getting dressed for school with the big girls, meeting her new classmates and teachers, bringing an extra special birthday snack, showing off her special birthday dress Grandma had made for her.
But we were not going to make it to preschool. Gracie has been sick and sore throats are not a good thing to bring to school.
She took the news pretty well especially when we brought out her first present of the day, a new Rapunzel dress-up from her Nana. The rest of the day was spent in the usual sickly fashion with movies and naps and waffles. By late afternoon she had perked up a bit and started asking for her cupcakes. We quickly got them assembled and called over our best neighbors for our impromptu birthday party.
Flaming cupcakes make her nervous, but she insisted that she liked them even though I was hesitant to make them for her after last year.
That evening I took her on a "date" to do her favorite thing, "dro-shery" shopping at Costco without anybody else. We picked up her favorite snacks like string cheese and pears and cereal, and we ended the night with a little frozen yogurt.
Happy third birthday little princess!
*my mom made the dress with this one as her model.
We'll try preschool again on Tuesday.
