Do you remember last year when this happened to me. Well, this year those horrible things ate my baby. Don't be too alarmed, I have kept her on Benadryll to help with the itching and she doesn't seem to have suffered too much.
Our trip this year to Palmyra was certainly memorable, even without pictures(I have a hard time bringing a camera on dirty camping trips, I'm always afraid they will get ruined so I leave them home). This year the young men's organizations in our church of which Adam is a leader reserved a bunch of camp sites near Palmyra and invited families in the ward to join them on a camp out during the pageant week. The families going each took as many boys as they could fit in their cars. We had three young men crammed into the back seat of our minivan, that was until one boy threw up in the back. After that we kept Mario in the front seat and Adam and I took turns in the back. And we rained on us the entire drive. I think we were all hoping that it would stop by the time we reached Palmyra, but it didn't. We unloaded and set up camp in the rain, and because there was not much else to do we went to bed early. It poured all night as well. Emma and I got a little wet, but we survived that miserable night. To keep myself from complaining I kept thinking how lucky we were that our camping gear was a lot better than the stuff pioneers would have used. We only got slightly wet and those early settlers would have been drenched.
The rest of out trip went great. When we awoke the next morning the sun was out and it was a perfect day to see the sights of Palmyra, the printing press, the Joseph Smith homes, and the sacred grove. The pageant that night was wonderful too. I think Ellie even recognized some of the Book of Mormon stories that were enacted. Her favorite was Nephi and his family on the boat.
Saturday morning we had a great breakfast cooked by Uncle Scott, packed up, and headed home. Thankfully, we were able to ditch a lot of our gear with another family to take home in their trailer and that freed up a lot of space in the van so that the ride home was not so cramped and throw up free.
Ellie and Emma loved camping. They were great around the fire and they went right to sleep each night in their sleeping bags. Adam took Ellie on her first boat ride in the little lake by the campsite and Emma discovered tree sap for the first time. "Ewwee"
