. . .At the Grand Canyon
Our vacations home to see family are usually just that. We spend our vacations wandering between family members homes trying to participate in as many family events as we can. Last Christmas we attended two weddings, a farewell, and a family reunion. This time we wanted to get in a little get away with just our little clan. We decided to visit the Grand Canyon because Adam had never seen it, and for a native Arizonan that is a disgrace. We were able to get a hotel room near the rim and the six hour drive went very well apart from the six potty breaks we took. But at the rim is were things turn sour.
We found out that Ellie is a terrible hiker. She cried and complained all through our evening stroll along the rim, and everyone down the canyon heard her as we tried a small hike down a canyon trial the next day. One hiker coming up told us, "You know, she echoes all the way down the canyon." "Oh, great." we replied in embarrassment.
Adam and I discussed our own family vacations growing up and we are full of appreciation for all they put up with to try and give their families a good time. One crying kid can ruin everything, and I know I did my share on crying on family trips, and I just want to say I am sorry to my parents.

Emma on the other hand was an angel. She was the best little hiker. She marched down the canyon with gusto and even hid two rocks in her pocket as keepsakes.

we are glad to have you home.
I love the story and the pics of the girls.
Boy not sure I want to go to the Canyon now in a week when we are out there. Maybe I'd better come up with a plan B (staying at our friend's house the whole week:-)
